LETI DE LA VEGA: Rancho Viejo, MexicoOr buy this CD from CD Baby
Rancho Viejo, Mexico De La Vega sings her family's unique blend of original Tejano music. Leti performs songs written by her brothers and her mother. Generations of her family's history is reflected in the music. Her 2002 release, Rancho Viejo, Mexico, features songs in both Spanish and English. Most of the songs were written by De La Vega and tell stories about the history of Rancho Viejo, Mexico from the days of the original Spanish land grant to the present. De La Vega was joined by well-known players such as Champ Hood and Doak Short on the album, as well as by members of four generations of the Sanchez-De La Vega family. Originally from Harlingen, Leti spent her childhood in both Texas and Rancho Viejo, Mexico, where she absorbed music from both cultures. In conjunction with some professors at UT Harlingen, she is working on a book about her family history. Her family's music and history tell the story of Texas beginning long before Texas became a state. She's writing new songs as well, some telling the story of the Balli family, who own Padre Island. Toni Price recorded one of her songs, "Musicos en los Corridas" on her Sol Power album. You can buy Leti De La Vega's Rancho Viejo, Mexico direct from Deep South Productions. |
